Collect of the Day

The Second Sunday in Lent.

The Collect

ALMIGHTY God, who seest that we have no power of ourselves to help ourselves; Keep us both outwardly in our bodies, and inwardly in our souls; that we may be defended from all adversities which may happen to the body, and from all evil thoughts which may assault and hurt the soul; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Collect from the First Day of Lent is to be read every day in Lent after the Collect appointed for the Day.

BibleWorks - Greek and Hebrew Fonts

For those of you who regularly read the blog I do from time to time do exegetical articles. If you wish to read those articles and view the Greek and Hebrew in the original languages you will need to download and install the BibleWorks fonts since that will be the primary platform I will be using.

BibleWorks 9 is a huge improvement over previous editions but with more critical tools, like a new textual apparatus. I will be doing a couple of exegetical posts in the near future to show what is possible with the software. The pricing of BibleWorks 9 is much more reasonable than other packages, although there are not as many commentaries available. BibleWorks 9 is primarily directed to those who want to work with the original languages; however, even those who do not know Koine Greek or biblical Hebrew can profit from these tools. In fact, in combination with a good introductory course online BibleWorks 9 would be a great way to learn the biblical languages. Although I have been out of seminary for many years now I still need a refresher now and then and consulting the Greek and Hebrew grammars is a must.
