The Reformed Evangelist

For those who think that Calvinists are not good evangelists let me say that only Calvinists can consistently preach the Gospel to the lost and devastate the arguments of unbelievers. Why? It is because only Calvinists understand that all mankind is under the curse of God's law and all men, women and children deserve God's wrath and are objects of God's wrath unless and until they are regenerated by the Holy Spirit and brought to faith, repentance and conversion.

In my earlier years I was unknowingly headed toward the doctrines of grace and God's sovereignty. I did my share of street preaching and prison and jail ministry. I preached to the worst of the worst because I, like most people, understood that these people deserved God's wrath. But this is where Arminians are inconsistent. This is where Anglo-Catholics and Roman Catholics are inconsistent. Arminians, Anglo-Catholics, and Roman Catholics have an inherent element in their theology where they believe that man is sinful but he is still good and has some ability to do good and to please God. This is precisely where liberalism begins. It is a slightly wrong doctrine which downplays man's sinful propensity to commit idolatry. Wherever man denies he has sinned and that he is inherently sinful, wicked and without merit before Almighty God, the end result is theological liberalism, heterodoxy and heresy.

Paul says no one is good, no not even one. No one deserves mercy before God on the day of judgment. We all deserve hell. Unless and until we acknowledge this basic truth taught by the Apostle Paul we can in no wise enter into the kingdom of heaven. When you have reached the end of your own resources, when you acknowledge that you cannot save yourself or even sustain your own life, then and only then can you become a Christian. When you reach the place where you can cry out, "God, have mercy on me a sinner," then you are ready to repent and to stop trusting in your own merits, your own righteousness, and your own resources to justify yourself before God. There is nothing we can contribute to our salvation, justification or glorification. Jesus Christ supplied everything and unless we throw ourselves upon His mercy we cannot be saved.

Show me just one Arminian who teaches this? Show me just one Anglo-Catholic who does not justify himself in his own eyes and before God? Show me just one Roman Catholic who is not trusting in his own goodness and his own merits to justify himself? Obviously, only the Protestant and Reformed view is biblical, true, and correct. God reveals His truth only in Scripture and in Jesus Christ. Unless you believe Moses and the prophets you cannot be saved.

Peace!

Charlie
