Americans should be on the alert for the erosion of their freedom of religion and freedom of speech in light of new hate crime legislation making it illegal to use hate speech against homosexuals. Under new legislation it could become illegal to preach that homosexuality is a sin. One need only reflect back to the incident in Canada where a Christian minister in Canada was fined and threatened with jail time for writing a letter to a newspaper quoting Scripture against the sin of homosexual activity. (See Romans 1:24, 26-27; 1 Corinthians 6:9; Leviticus 18:22, 20:13).
