Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. (Genesis 2:24 NKJ)
Mike Huckabee rightly points out that the reason that Evangelical Christian oppose same sex marriage is that it redefines marriage itself. According to Huckabee, the Evangelical Christian understands that God's moral law is a higher standard than the latest poll or the opinion of celebrities and political leaders:
"And it's not because there's an anti-homosexual mood, and nobody's homophobic that I know of," he continued, "but many of us, and I consider myself included, base our standards not on the latest Washington Post poll, but on an objective standard, not a subjective standard."
The article states that since the 1970's Evangelicals have been supporting the Republican Party in large numbers because of the Christian Right. Today three out of four Evangelicals votes Republican. Another article I read online says that even though 70% of African-Americans voted for Barack Obama the vast majority of them oppose same sex marriage. The same is true of Hispanic voters who voted for the Democratics.
Basically, I have to agree with Huck. If the Republican Party supports the redefining of traditional marriage there will be a mass exodus of Evangelical voters from the Party. I will be one of them.
