Conceding That Roman Catholics Are "Saved" Betrays an Underlying Pelagianism

Anyone who thinks Roman Catholics are born again Christians simply because "they believe in Jesus" is basically saying that good works rather than faith is the deciding factor in salvation.  It means that whoever is saying such a foolish thing does not believe that justification is by faith alone.

Where then is boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? By one of works? No, on the contrary, by a law of faith. 28 For we conclude that a man is justified by faith apart from the works of the law. (Romans 3:27-28 CSB)

OK charlie I'll bite. What is needed beyond faith (belief) in Jesus?

Davidson,

That begs the question, "Which Jesus????" There is only one Jesus (2 Corinthians 11:3-4). There is only one Gospel (Galatians 1:6-9). There is only one faith (Ephesians 4:4-6; Jude 1:3-4).

Basically, the Scriptures are necessary to true faith because the Scriptures alone are the final authority in all matters of faith and practice. The Scriptures are the revelation of God and of the Son of God:

Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. (Hebrews 1:1-2 ESV)

The five solas of the Protestant Reformation set true Christianity apart from the false religion of Rome:

1) Sola Scriptura: Scripture alone.
2) Solus Christus: Christ alone saves.
3) Sola Fide: Faith alone justifies us before God.
4) Sola Gratia: Grace alone saves us from our sins.
5) Sola Gloria Deo: God alone receives all the glory and worship.

Rome fails on all five of these points.

Charlie
and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:15-17 ESV)

And we have something more sure, the prophetic word, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts, 20 knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone's own interpretation. 21 For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. (2 Peter 1:19-21 ESV)
