The Chalcedonian Creed is the most fascinating of the Creeds, for me.

Of course, and as you always quote, children can become wise by the Scriptures and believe in the Gospel.

2 Timothy 3:15,
"and that from a babe you know the Holy Scriptures, those being able to make you wise to salvation through belief in Christ Jesus."

Matthew 19:14,
"But Jesus said, Allow the little children and do not prevent them to come to Me, for of such is the kingdom of Heaven."

Therefore, average adult-like intelligence cannot be indispensable for salvation, but only mere and true belief in the Gospel.

Amen, Brandon. I'm finding that the more I read Clark for myself the more I see that Sean Gerety and others are not always representing Clark's total views in context. I don't have his commentary on 1st John yet but I will be adding this to my library in the future.

Clark didn't say intelligence is indispensible for salvation. He said that "belief in the propitiatory efficacy in Christ's death is indispensible." Any adult of average intelligence can understand this. "Propitiation" means to appease or turn away God's wrath. And "efficacy" means to be effective. So what is necessary or "indispensible" for salvation is believing that Christ's death on the cross satisfies God's wrath and appeases God so that His wrath is turned away from the elect.

NKJ Romans 3:25 whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed,
17 Therefore, in all things He had to be made like His brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.
NKJ 1 John 2:2 And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.
NKJ 1 John 4:10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
