Today's collect is for St. Matthew the Apostle and Martyr. If you know how to read the Morning and Evening Prayer service I do encourage you to do so. Just follow the links for the Scripture lessons/readings. If you follow this reading plan you will not only read through the Psalms several times during the year but you will cover the entire Old Testament and the New Testament. Also, you will read the written prayers which are all drawn from the Scriptures. I would say that 98% of what is in the 1662 Book of Common Prayer is Scripture.
O ALMIGHTY
God, who by thy blessed Son didst call Matthew from the receipt of
custom to be an Apostle and Evangelist; Grant us grace to forsake all
covetous desires, and inordinate love of riches, and to follow the same
thy Son Jesus Christ, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy
Ghost, one God, world without end. Amen.
