Church Mouse on Postmodernism

Every now and then we come across a blog with an article with which we can heartily agree. Ironically, the Church Mouse is an Anglo-Catholic. There might be hope for Anglo-Catholicism if this fellow is any indication. I am a Reformed and Calvinist Anglican of the five point, Dortian variety. I argue my position because I believe it is right and true. The fact that we have an Anglo-Catholic layperson quoting John MacArthur's comments against the postmodern worldview shows that the Reformed message is gaining ground. When even lay persons within the Anglo-Catholic tradition begin to see that truth is absolute and not relative then we have accomplished something.

This should speak volumes to those who wonder why I oppose high church Lutheranism (where the sacramental elements can be venerated, lifted up, and adored as "adiaphora"), why I oppose Anglo-Catholicism (where the 39 Articles are rejected or reinterpreted and the five solas of the English Reformation are rejected), and why I oppose the modern church growth/charismatic/pentecostal movement (where objective truth is rejected in favor of experientialism, subjectivism, and anti-intellectualism).

You can read the article at: John MacArthur on Postmodernism.

Thanks for the mention!

I am unsure whether I am 100% Anglo-Catholic. In any event, whatever percentage I might be -- and even I'm not sure, so I'm interested as to how you come to that conclusion -- I would always be more ANGLO-Catholic than Anglo-CATHOLIC.

All I can say with any certainty is that I have been an Anglican for many years and am a firm believer in the 39 Articles and the 1662 Book of Common Prayer.

I don't recall that you answered my question from the other post as to how we Anglicans, corporately or individually, can promote the 39 Articles and the BCP in our congregations. If you have any ideas, please let me know.

I could tell from your blog before I posted my comment that you are a Reformed Anglican, which is why I commented earlier today.

I have since this time come to conclude that John MacArthur is unorthodox on the doctrine of justification by faith alone. Apparently R. Scott Clark thinks Mac has a lot in common with the Federal Vision view of justification by "faithfulness".

I appreciate reaching the "Brickbat" category at your blog.

I do not apologize for being narrow since I believe Jesus Christ was narrow as well:

"Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. 14 For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few. (Matthew 7:13-14 ESV)

"Strive to enter through the narrow door. For many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able. (Luke 13:24 ESV)
