Good works are not the basis of assurance. Muller misunderstands Calvin. Calvin never associated assurance with works even after conversion. After conversion there are good works to be sure but good works can never give assurance precisely because they are always imperfect and fall short of God's glory. (Romans 3:23; 1 John 1:8-9; Psalm 143:2). Click here to listen to Richard Muller's lecture: Calvin on Assurance:: Westminster Seminary California
